    In 2020, the Assembly of First Nations (AFN) held its first National Climate Gathering in Whitehorse, Yukon, on the traditional territory of the Ta’an Kwächän and the Kwanlin Dün. More than 300 First Nations experts, leaders, youth, women, knowledge keepers, and professionals gathered to discuss root causes, acceleration of existing challenges, and solutions to the climate crisis. This report reflects on the presentations, discussions, experiences and knowledge shared at the Climate Gathering.

    Climate Change Vulnerability of BC’s Fish and Wildlife: First Approximation (Opens in a new Window)

    This report outlines a framework to assess climate change vulnerability for BC’s fish and wildlife species and ecosystems, and uses the framework to assess vulnerability for selected species. An accompanying database includes detailed ratings and rationales. The report also identifies high-level adaptation strategies to reduce risks associated with climate change.

    Forest Change Adaptation Tools (Opens in a new Window)

    Forest Change adaptation tools provides information about the impacts of climate change on Canada’s forests and on how to adapt to changing climate conditions. Adaptation tools and resources for forest managers are available here. The tools and resources provided include maps, databases, web applications and synthesis reports.     Health of Canadians in a Changing Climate (Opens in a new Window)

    This assessment is the first comprehensive study of current and projected risks from climate change to the health of Canadians since 2008. It was developed by a team of more than 80 subject matter experts from regional and federal health authorities and academic institutions across Canada. It addresses the evolving knowledge needs of government decision makers, civil society organizations, and individual Canadians by providing evidence-based and, where possible, quantitative information to help people understand how Canada’s climate is changing, and the effects on health and health systems, including implications for those most at risk.

    Integrating Climate Change Measures into Municipal Planning and Decision-Making: A Guide for Northern Communities (in english only) (Opens in a new Window)

    This guide was developed to assist communities in the NWT integrate climate change adaptation measures into existing and future community plans. This resource outlines steps to developing a community adaptation plan, provides guidance on accessing climate data and future projections, and describes methods for integrating climate information into various planning initiatives (hazard mapping, community emergency, strategic, financial, etc.).

    Inuvialuit Settlement Region Climate Change Strategy (Opens in a new Window)

    Few places in the world are experiencing the effects of anthropogenic climate change as rapidly and intensely as the Inuvialuit Settlement Region or ISR, in the Western Arctic. Inuvialuit communities and Traditional Knowledge experts have raised deep concerns about climate change and the rapid and unfamiliar environmental transformations underway, including shifting ice freeze-up and break-up trends, plant and animal species migration, coastal erosion, permafrost degradation, flooding and health and wellness effects. The ISR Climate Change Strategy aims to address the wide-ranging issues and opportunities that Inuvialuit communities face and will continue to experience in the coming years. The strategy covers core goals and enabling actions across six thematic areas: Food and Wellness, Safety, Housing and Infrastructure, Education and Awareness, Ecosystem Health and Diversity, and Energy.

    LC MAP - Landscape Conservation Management and Analysis Portal (Opens in a new Window)

    The Landscape Conservation Management and Analysis (LC MAP) Data Catalog tool includes resources for Landscape Conservation Cooperatives (LCC). LC MAP was originally developed by the U.S. Geological Survey in coordination with the Great Northern LCC and is broadly available for ScienceBase users to share, access, and analyze common datasets. LC MAP allows users to discover, assess, edit, analyze, and model common data themes and provides powerful geospatial analysis capabilities of ArcGIS 10 and its broad array of extensions.

    Métis Climate Change and Health Vulnerability Assessment (MCCHVA) (Opens in a new Window)

    This comprehensive report examines the relationship between climate change and Métis health and wellbeing. The report reviews health vulnerabilities and Métis-relevant social determinants of health; climate risks by each governing area and type of hazard such as forest fire, extreme heat, and flooding; knowledge gaps; and, key areas for action by each Metis governing body. The report recognizes the unique environmental knowledge of the Métis Nation and the strength of their communities, which provide examples of resiliency that can be used in adapting to climate change. The report closes with recommendations.

    National Inuit Climate Change Strategy (2019) (Opens in a new Window)

    This climate strategy advances Inuit-determined actions to strengthen the sustainability and resilience of Inuit communities in the face of a rapidly changing climate and landscape, including core actions to protect Inuit culture, language and way of life. The inter-connected strategy focusses on five priority areas: knowledge and capacity-building; health, well-being and the environment; food systems; infrastructure; and, energy. The strategy provides guidance to existing and future partners, including governments and organizations, on how to work with Inuit communities to achieve their climate priorities. The strategy is available in Inuktitut Syllabics, Inuktitut Qaliujaaqpait, French, and English (see the bottom of the website).
